March 30, 2016

As much as I love all those fancy Pinterest recipes, sometimes I just need something simple and to the point. Thank you All Recipes for being there to make my life a little bit easier.

Truth is, I feel way more inspired in the kitchen when I'm browsing through the gorgeous aesthetics and trendy blogs that Pinterest has to offer. I love discovering people all over the world, living different lives, creating something new, and sharing for all to see, but to be completely honest, most of the time, I feel extremely intimidated and out of my league.

All Recipes, on the other hand, with it's generic design and user-based photography, puts me at ease. Yes, I've lost the intimate setting of the stay-at-home mom sharing all of grandma's beloved kitchen secrets, but at least I know all the ingredients on the list.

So, in the case of learning a new trick, I choose the simplicity and straightforwardness of All Recipes, at the cost of missing out on the beautifully staged pictures and witty banter of an endearing author.

I know, I know, this is a strange way to go about recipe hunting, but it's how my visually-stimulated mind works, and I just can't seem to change. So, I'll always check Pinterest first, but when the stakes seem to high, All Recipes is where I end up – trusted by many and hard to go wrong by.

With all that to say, here's my attempt at creating an alternative platform for those simple, go-to recipes!

Happy Baking!

The Simple Scone by All Recipes

You'll Need:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 8 tbsp butter (frozen)
  • 1/2 cup berries, fresh, frozen, or dried
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp sugar for garnish

You'll Need to:

  1. Adjust oven rack to middle position and preheat oven to 400 degrees
  2. Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl
  3. Grate frozen butter into flour mixture using the large holes of a box grater
  4. Use your fingers to work the grated butter into the flour (mixture should resemble coarse meal)
  5. Stir in berries
  6. Whisk yogurt and egg in a small bowl
  7. Stir wet mixture into dry mixture with a fork – until large dough clumps form
  8. Use your hards to press the dough against the bowl into a ball (Don't give up! There may not seem to be enough liquid at first, but as you press, the dough will come together.)
  9. Place the ball of dough onto a flat, lightly-floured surface
  10. Pat the dough into a 7-8 inch circle, about 3/4 inch think
  11. Sprinkle 1 tsp sugar on the face of the round
  12. Use a large knife (or pizza cutter) cut the dough into 8 even triangles
  13. Place on a cookie sheet, 1 inch apart
  14. Bake until golden, about 15-17 minutes
  15. Serve hot!
