When David was 18 he went to Germany for 5 weeks to visit friends. While he was there he met a family in Germany that he became pretty close to. When it was time for him to say goodbye, he didn't know when/if he would see them again. Well now, here we are, 5 years later in Germany so of course we had to visit the Gröbners! Just a 3 hour train ride south to Traunstein and a 20 minute drive to the small village of Petting and he was reunited with them again! I was very happy to meet them as well; I had heard a lot about them, especially Robert who accompanied David and a couple more of our friends on a boys trip to Ireland – hilarious stories from that trip involving sandwiches on the run and stinky socks! We were also pretty happy to be in Bavaria where they roll their R's in the front of their mouth instead of the back; which made understanding and speaking Deutsch much easier for us Americans! It was even cooler to spend a weekend doing local things like going on a "cozy walk" (a new inside joke because the easy walk we were promised was more of a continuous 2 hour uphill climb haha) in the Alps and jumping in a freezing cold lake just before a thunderstorm!
