I absolutely love stumbling upon quotes, instagrams, books, pictures, articles, websites, and blogs that inspire me toward my dreams and make me feel, frankly, invincible. (It's true, they really do make me feel invincible.)
A few days ago, I found an article through Instagram that I absolutely loved.
Artifact Uprising (a printing company based in Colorado, whom I adore) posted a picture by a man named David duChemin, a photographer/writer; they had recently featured him as an “Inspired Story” on their blog.
In the article he writes to “Jennifer” (a representative of all the people who email asking for his advice), explaining to her that more even more important than the art she produces, is her distinct craft that is the key to success. Her craft, he says, is where her main focus she be aimed.
(“Art” being the pictures we take, blogs we write, food we cook etc. and “craft” being our unique perspectives on writing, photographing, cooking, etc.)
The way duChemin portrays this idea was my favorite part of the article:
Lastly, through all that, learn your craft, and be so good at it that no one can ignore you. But never confuse craft for art. One is a means, the other an end.
I really love how he says “that no one can ignore you”. I don’t want to be ignored. I want to be followed and searched for!
