Alaska Web Finds

August 14, 2014

In hopes of one day (sooner rather than later) moving to Alaska, I have begun to scour the web for Alaskan blogs in order to learn more and get inspired towards my goal – I also don’t mind all the time spent browsing through beautiful scenic photos.

To find said blogs, I simply googled “Alaskan Blogs” and chose the first one that popped up bringing me to the Alaska Blog Network.

This site is a conglomeration of any and all types of Alaskan blogs. It’s an online community for bloggers in the Last Frontier to connect and share their stories with one another. I’ve also found it to be a great resource for people like me who want to get a closer look into life in the 49th state. (Full Disclosure: I did not know that number off the top of my head; I had to consult Wiki Answers for that one.)

The network was created by blogger Whitney Harness of Life Alaskan Style. Whitney’s blog is a fun one to follow, filled with stories of her life as a wife and mom of two, beautiful photography portraying all the gorgeous seasons of Alaska, and a look into her unique hobbies and interests. It’s a very entertaining blog to read.

My recent endeavor to advance in the blogging world has me searching for cool blogs like this to follow and learn from. I’m also now reading Blog Inc. by Joy Deangdeelart Cho of Oh Joy (compliments of my amazing husband who found and ordered the book for me via Amazon). I’m only 22 pages in (slow reader) and I’m already feeling like a more knowledgable blogger.

Cho talks about the anatomy of a blog in those first 22 pages. For the most part, I knew all the correct terminology - permalink, tags, archives, etc. – but there were a few I didn’t know, one being blogroll. A “blogroll” is a list of blogs you follow and want to endorse, primarily found on the side column of your blog. I love learning new things about the “blogosphere” (the world of blogging),  another term I learned from my reading today.

Even more than learning, I love implementing the new details I’ve learned into my blog. That’s where we return to Whitney and her Alaskan blog. I would like to recommend Life Alaskan Style as a neat blog to check out and follow. You can start here with a short post she wrote yesterday on getting outside.

Happy Blogosphering!
