98 Degrees in Fall

October 2, 2014

I don't know where you live, but where I live it's been incredulously HOT! Like in the 90s man! I know some of you see much higher degrees, but for this California girl, this is just too hot. Yesterday, I decided I need a relief and a cold shower wasn't going to cut it!

My choice way of cooling off would be jumping off a rock or pier or some sort of surface into a lake – probably because you don't have to feel the water first before getting all the way dunked in. Since there's no lakes near me I settled for the ocean. Not a bad trade-off!

I drove over to Avila Beach by myself – something I never do – and ran fast into the ocean. (I've specifically stayed away from the beach since moving up here, knowing that the water is colder than I'm used to, but yesterday, I didn't care how shocking the temperature would be to my sensitive skin.) As I lifted my head out from the water I realized I wasn't running towards shore, but instead ready for another plunge. The water was cold but not unbearable, plus, I had finally found relief from the heat. I'm going back again today with the Hubs.

What's you're favorite way of fighting the heat!!? Jumping off the high dive? Running through sprinklers? Floating on the river? Dunking under waves? Turning the dial to cold in the shower? Maybe escaping in your air-conditioned car?

Sincerely,

An air-condition deprived Californian

Happy Cooling Off!

Places to Go in SLO: #2 Irish Hills Hiking Trail

September 12, 2014

After 4 months of living against the famous (well, famed in San Luis) Irish Hills Hiking Trails, I decided it was time to ascend into their midsts and boy am I not sorry for pushing myself this time. The funny thing is, who really is ever regretful once they reach the climax of a hike – the waterfall at the end, the expansive mountain view, the water hole, the exploratory caves.

In light of my recent discoveries, I am going to recommend the Irish Hills Hiking Trails as a place to go in SLO...

Places to Go in SLO: #1 Scout Coffee Co.

September 10, 2014

I fall into the realm of "bright and happy people-person", and so, naturally, I was instantly drawn to Scout Coffee Company, conveniently placed on Garden St. (Isn't that nice?). Scout is a new establishment in San Luis, only 8 months old, and their business is rapidly growing. Coming from my old home at Lucky Llama in Carpinteria (another, fairly new, family-owned coffee house), it was a joy to see this shop also doing so well. How could they not, though, with their exquisite interior design and pristine beverage menu...

Never Lose Your Sense of Wonder

August 26, 2014

Close your eyes and picture the look on a child’s face when you tell them you’re going out for ice cream, the glisten in their eyes when you push them high in a swing, and the joy in their hearts when they run down the beach, barefoot and free...
